Where Business and Technology Meets and Becomes Useful
Mozilla’s getting a new face, but is that all?

What caused these changes?  Google chrome.  When Google released their new web browser that boasted some of those amazing results on loading web pages, this triggered Firefox to realize they may need to look back at their current strategy.  As stated by Google, they are not trying to take away from Mozilla’s market, but they want to create their own.  Regardless of their good intentions, this is impacting the 5 year old company.

What is Firefox?  Some may be asking what exactly is Firefox.  A lot of you may be wondering how anyone does not know about Firefox?  This weekend I got asked by one of my relatives, and we had a long conversation about what Firefox is, what it does, and why is it made when Windows comes with Internet Explorer.  Well, to sum it up, it is Internet Explorer, but according to Firefox it’s better.  Really I am pretty neutral on the three major players.  Internet Explorer, Firefox and Google Chrome perform very similar now.  There was a time though where if Firefox did not exist Microsoft would never have taken the initiative to get Internet Explorer to what it is today.

Now for the new face.  When Firefox first came into production, it was actually building upon the previously well known Netscape.  Netscape in the late 90’s became open source (this means anyone can take the code and use it), and at this time Firefox began its leap into the market.  Originally Firefox was named Phoenix, and now this name is back.

What does this mean for Firefox?  Firefox is trying to shrink the overall size of Firefox, as some people have referred to it as “bloatware” and has truly become a large software.  They are also trying to compete with the speed of chrome.  We should see some new exciting stuff coming soon.

This change will not only affect Firefox though.  All of the browsers will be stepping up their game.  As usual Microsoft will be pulling up the tail using the good ideas of others to fix or improve on Internet Explorer.  Google will continue boasting a lightweight fast browser.  And Firefox will hopefully be able to decrease the size of their browser and increase the speed to make it yet again competitive.
